...INCREASED FIRE DANGER FROM NOON EDT TODAY THROUGH THIS EVENING... Gusty winds and low relative humidity will develop this afternoon across the western Carolinas. With little to no rainfall across the area yesterday, small fuels and brush will dry out quickly this afternoon. All these conditions will lead to an increased risk of wildfires into the evening hours. Please refer to your local burn permitting authorities on whether you can burn today. If you do burn, use extreme caution since fires can quickly get out of hand under these conditions.

...INCREASED FIRE DANGER FROM NOON EDT TODAY THROUGH 8 PM EDT THIS EVENING... Gusty winds and low relative humidity will develop this afternoon across northwest and north central North Carolina, especially the foothills and piedmont area. No significant widespread rainfall has occurred in recent days. The combination of relatively dry fuels, afternoon low relative humidity values in the 20 to 25 percent range, and gusty northwest winds of 10 to 20 mph with gusts of 25 to 30 mph at times, will result in an increased risk for the spread of wildfires. Anything that could result in the start of a wildfire should be avoided today. Use extreme caution with disposal of such items as cigarettes and other incendiary material as well as the use of any machines that may create sparks or an ignition source. Follow all guidance from local officials regarding outdoor burning and burn bans.
