HIDESpecial Weather Statement issued January 20 at 9:50PM EST by NWS Greenville-Spartanburg
...LIGHT WINTRY MIX POSSIBLE LATE TONIGHT AND EARLY THURSDAY
MORNING...
Precipitation will develop tonight across the North Carolina
mountains as moist warm air flows over a cold surface airmass.
Temperatures generally are expected to be warm enough that this
precipitation will mostly fall as rain. If precipitation develops
as expected, a brief period of sleet will be possible, especially
at onset. Sleet accumulation most likely will be no more than a
couple tenths of an inch. A few spots such as sheltered valleys or
elevations above 5000 feet may fall or remain below freezing, and
experience freezing rain causing a light glaze of ice mainly on
elevated surfaces. Plan to drive with extra caution early Thursday
morning in the mountains.
Counties Affected:
Avery; Buncombe; Graham; Haywood; Macon; Madison; Mitchell; Northern Jackson; Swain; Yancey
Issued by: NWS Greenville-Spartanburg (Western North Carolina and Northwest South Carolina)
